Want to become a talent scout for the next big thing in media?

WhoWhatWhy , a nonprofit news organization, is looking for a gregarious, values-driven individual to serve as our lead recruiter. You will write ad copy, track responses, assess applications, and conduct phone interviews to gauge candidates’ relevant experience, as well as their understanding of our values and dedication to our mission.

While HR and recruiting experience is helpful, we are more interested in whether you have the aptitude and mindset for this important and challenging work.

WhoWhatWhy is a radically different news outfit - for a public equally tired of irresponsible "fake news" and of the establishment media’s pack mentality and limited curiosity. We hunt for those narratives that somehow never get told - even by the "hot news brands" that at first blush seem so edgy and bold. We dig deep, identifying underlying causes of political crises and structural problems that, if addressed, could result in a better world for all.

If you’re on board with that and have the skills and time to match, we invite you to join our pro-bono family and help us grow further by finding and recruiting excellent applicants.

As a nonprofit that accepts no advertising, we staff up largely with enthusiastic, professional volunteers, but always try to move people toward at least modest compensation as resources permit.

To apply, send us your resume and a detailed cover letter that shows you have studied our brand and explains why you are qualified for this position.

  • Help formulate our HR needs
  • Cooperate with marketing personnel in preparation of ad copy for open positions
  • Determine ad venues and place ads
  • Track and organize ad responses
  • Reach out to qualified applicants in a timely manner

  • Conduct first-round interviews
  • Assess applicants
  • Monitor company roster and create profiles of successful team members
  • Communicate regularly with department supervisors to assess their ongoing personnel requirements
  • Seek new, creative means of recruiting team members and always be recruiting

What you bring:

  • Excellent phone and interview etiquette
  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • A steady, confident, clear speaking voice
  • Good prospect assessment skills
  • The ability to grasp and project the the WhoWhatWhy brand, its values and its distinct editorial voice
  • A willingness to commit long term and help us develop into a singular force for good journalism - and good

What you get:

  • Work at a highly professional, supportive, creative and intellectually-stimulating environment
  • Get valuable, marketable Human Resources experience
  • Acquire valuable new interpersonal, organization and copywriting skills
  • Enable our work on cutting-edge issues at the center of public discourse
  • Set your own schedule and work from home
  • Progress to a compensated position
  • Collaborate with smart, accomplished coworkers
  • Have fun

Mission Statement

WhoWhatWhy is a nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization aiming to discover and share the truth about matters affecting us all. We launched with the idea that the public deserves courageous and thorough investigations into powerful institutions, entities and individuals that shape our world. We pride ourselves on having no sacred cows, and covering stories that no one else will touch. At WhoWhatWhy, we believe that quality information changes minds--and that when you change minds, you change everything.

Description

WhoWhatWhy embodies a form of investigative reporting that is rigorous, relentless, and scientific - we call it forensic journalism.

We take on controversial topics others will not touch and dig deep to uncover and name the institutions and persons shaping our world. Our organization is neither partisan nor ideological and only provides accounts based on extensive research and thorough sourcing.

In addition to producing rigorous investigative reporting, we seek to further the long-term survival and betterment of the news industry as a whole.
