Where does a child go when battling a series illness to find peace and comfort? They aren't going to school or play dates. They are spending a lot of time in their rooms and their rooms now resemble hospital rooms with all their equipment and medicines.

Special Spaces wants to change that. We create the bedroom of their wildest dreams all while addressing their medical needs. Each design team pairs up with a local company and we make the room happen all in one day. It’s like Extreme makeover with a cause. Watch as Sophie’s dream princess room comes true.

We started the Illinois Chapter almost years ago. Since then we have completed 115 dream room makeovers and now have six chapters under the Illinois Umbrella.

We are looking to double our associate directors in 2018. Each associate director will be responsible for not only meeting with the child and designing their room but they will also run makeover day with a team of volunteers from the sponsoring company. Each director will shadow one of our current directors for at least one makeover and then have a director shadow them for their first makeover. Design skills needed (degree not required) and a desire and willingness to make a difference in the lives of children and the volunteers.
