Sibling Connections works year-round to connect brothers and sisters who have been separated by foster care by hosting monthly Sibling Sunday events (Boston, Springfield, and Lowell) and Sibling Weekend Retreats in each of those areas as well. Our winter retreat is going to be held February 21-23 at Grotonwood Camp in Groton, MA.

We are searching for a volunteer weekend medical staff (RN, NP, PA, MD...etc.) to attend our winter retreat. We invite 40 youth to attend a weekend of fun activities with their siblings. Siblings and volunteers arrive late Friday afternoon, have dinner, participate in games, and watch a movie. Saturday, siblings wake up early for breakfast all together, take sibling portraits, and take part in camp activities all day. The medical staff is required to hand out and administer medications and respond to any medical crisis that may occur. It would be ideal to have a medical staff sleep on-site, but off-site is doable as long as we have enough medical staff to schedule volunteer time in shifts. Sibling Connections uses an online application that includes a medical database which is very user-friendly for any medical volunteer.

Our retreats provide siblings with the much-needed family time they desire to have with their siblings despite being separated from one another.

About SIBLING CONNECTIONS INC

Mission Statement

Sibling Connection supports the creation of enduring family relationships and community connections for sisters and brothers experiencing foster care in Massachusetts. Our work is accomplished through innovative programs and practices restoring and strengthening the lives of siblings who have been separated when placed in the foster care system.

Description

Sibling Connections supports siblings separated by the public foster care system in Massachusetts. There are over 10,000 youth in foster care, and often siblings are separated due to the lack of foster homes available that are able to home all siblings. Children in foster care who have access to their families report improved social, emotional and behavioral well being. We support family connections through three programs:
-Sibling Sundays is a program we offer from Oct - May which allows siblings to get together about once a month with their siblings to spend time and enjoy an activity together for 3-4 hours. We operate Sibling Sundays in the Greater Boston area, Lowell, and Springfield.
-Camp Sibling Connections is a week-long camp located in Smithfield, Maine in which 115 siblings come together for a week of fun.
-Weekend Retreats allow siblings to spend a weekend together building their relationships and enjoying activities that typical siblings would experience.

Sibling Connections is supported by the volunteer support of over 100+ individuals statewide and are the backbone of our organization. So often, kids in the foster care are supported by adults in who are paid to do so. Our kids treasure the time with a caring adult who is choosing to be a part of their lives because they care about them. Please consider becoming a Sibling Connections family member today!
