Dig In and Help Redmond's Forests and Natural Areas!

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Forterra

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Help the Neighborhood Stewards to continue forest restoration work in the East Valley Heights Neighborhood. Spend the morning removing invasive ivy and blackberry, and help prep this natural area for future plantings. Everyone is welcome, and the event is open to all ages and abilities. We will provide all of the tools and training!

This event will also serve as a time to learn more about how to get involved with the Neighborhood Steward program. If you're interested in attending, please email Nicole Marcotte at nmarcotte@forterra.org

Where to Meet: Meet just north of the corner of 184th Ave NE and NE 105th Ct - Look for tools and event signs! Street parking available.
What to bring: a water bottle, a snack if you want one, and tough clothes, and shoes that can get dirty (because they will!), including long pants and a long-sleeved shirt to protect against prickly blackberry. Closed-toed shoes are required: work boots, hiking boots, or running shoes are all fine. Remember to check the weather and bring appropriate layers and rain gear or sun protection as needed. We will be working rain or shine!

About Forterra

Mission Statement

Forterra's mission is to act with immediacy to protect, enhance and steward our region's most precious resources--its communities and its landscapes. Since 1989, we have been working toward a future in which our children and grandchildren can experience nature in and around our urban environments.

Description

Forterra conserves land by working with individuals, companies and local governments. We strive to maximize the ecological value of land, while meeting the needs of landowners. We may accept land as a donation, purchase it, or transfer it to public ownership. We often serve as a broker to identify and negotiate the most effective ownership to protect important lands. We establish conservation easements to preserve special features. For each and every property, we explore available strategies or create new ones to provide permanent protection. Forterra has established a Conservation Agenda for our region, with specific priorities and methods for each type of landscape. Current initiatives include the protection of working forests on the foothills of the Cascades, and the creation of salmon sanctuaries along our region's highest quality rivers and streams.
