Jackson Middle School is an extraordinary group of students, teachers, and staff dedicated to adolescent development, education, and equity. After school, the SUN school offers a variety of different enrichment and skill-building activities for students. This year we are doing something ENTIRELY NEW. We will be partnering with different community organizations (Friends of Tryon Creek, SW Watershed Resource Center, and BES Clean Rivers) to offer a class focusing on water issues, both locally and globally. We are looking for a Teaching Assistant for this class.

Our Teaching Assistant will work with partners and SUN Site Manager to brainstorm curriculum ideas, get to know the students, create a positive and fun learning environment, and track administrative information such as attendance. You will get to know some remarkable middle school students from a variety of backgrounds (Somali refugees, Latino immigrants, and three-generation Portland locals) and help instill a personal connection to the SW neighborhood and build their social and emotional understanding of the world. These students will brighten your day, teach you new things, and you will get to help foster more appreciation and wonder for the planet.
