  • Urban Forestry : Currently in both Phoenix and Tempe there are initiatives to increase urban tree canopy throughout the cities. AZSA is committed to promoting these initiatives through demonstration, including pilot projects for reforestation with private landowners, urban orchards in empty public spaces, etc. The priority leader will be responsible for the following:
    • Develop a cohesive and clearly defined strategy, goals, and objectives
    • From that strategy identify projects that will meet the goals of the priority
    • Work with existing organizations, coalitions, nonprofits, cities, etc. to understand where AZSA can have added value either by supporting existing efforts or by developing new projects
    • Work with volunteers to design and execute projects utilizing the templates that have been developed by AZSA

Given the importance and growing need for urban forestry, the priority lead should possess the following skill set:

    • Experience managing grants larger than $50,000
    • Experience managing a team to implement large grants
    • Knowledge of urban forestry in desert ecosystems
    • Experience working with local government to successfully demonstrate attainment of their goals
