During these uncertain times, how can we help?
See below to access our COVID-19 Resource Hub, and to explore our growing directory of COVID-19-specific and virtual volunteering opportunities.
We are a newer nonprofit, whose sole mission is to feed hungry students for the weekend. In the Seattle Public School District there are 52,000 students in 98 schools. Out of that 20,000 qualify for free and reduced lunch. Out of that, 3044 are identified as homeless through the Mckinney Vento Federal Act which qualifies them as having no adequate nighttime residence. They are on the street, car, shelter, hotel, or doubled up.
For many of those MKV students, they rely solely on the food at school, so from Friday lunch to Monday breakfast it's a long time. We hope to fix that with a weekend hunger bag that has 13 items for them to take home and eat for the weekend, filling a belly which would have gone empty.
Due to covid, we are currently serving 2300 students in 47 schools. We hope to grow so that no MKV student goes unserved.
