The Institute for Applied Tinkering, the 501c3 not-for-profit organization that operates Tinkering School and Brightworks , is now recruiting for its Board of Directors.
The goal of the IAT is to transform education in the 21st century by proving that child-centric, engagement-based learning leads to happier children and more fulfilled, productive adults. We have made a lot of progress over the past 13 years, but there is much more to do. We are looking for a few exceptionally talented and committed individuals to help lead the organization as we improve our programs, reach more children, and help other educators transform education in their communities.
We’re particularly interested in folks with skills and connections in any of these areas:
Radical student-driven education
Large-scale camps and after-school programs
Legal, especially in a non-profit and/or children’s programs context
Commercial real estate
Non-profit fundraising
Financial management / accounting
Marketing and public relations
Human resources management
More opportunities with INSTITUTE FOR APPLIED TINKERING
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.
About INSTITUTE FOR APPLIED TINKERING

Mission Statement
Institute for Applied Tinkering explores, develops and promotes new methods for helping children learn using real tools to solve real problems in the real world.
Description
Everything is interesting.
We can create anything.
Kids are more capable than they know.
It can be done bigger and bolder.
The freedom to fail is essential.
These are the core beliefs that drive the work of the Institute for Applied Tinkering (IAT). The IAT is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is transforming education by proving that child-centric, engagement-based education leads to happier children and more fulfilled, productive adults. When children are architects of their own education, they more readily develop the independent thinking, problem-solving skills, productive work habits that enable an engaged life.
We also believe that to create real change, big ideas are not enough - it is necessary to bring the ideas to life. Since 2005 we have been doing exactly that. Thousands of children have directly benefited from our two major programs: Brightworks (K-12 education) and Tinkering School (camps and enrichment programs).
