Mission Statement
Institute for Applied Tinkering explores, develops and promotes new methods for helping children learn using real tools to solve real problems in the real world.
Description
Everything is interesting.
We can create anything.
Kids are more capable than they know.
It can be done bigger and bolder.
The freedom to fail is essential.
These are the core beliefs that drive the work of the Institute for Applied Tinkering (IAT). The IAT is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is transforming education by proving that child-centric, engagement-based education leads to happier children and more fulfilled, productive adults. When children are architects of their own education, they more readily develop the independent thinking, problem-solving skills, productive work habits that enable an engaged life.
We also believe that to create real change, big ideas are not enough - it is necessary to bring the ideas to life. Since 2005 we have been doing exactly that. Thousands of children have directly benefited from our two major programs: Brightworks (K-12 education) and Tinkering School (camps and enrichment programs).
