Join our homeschool instructional team in helping to provide educational, enriching and fun experiences at Blank Park Zoo. Volunteers will work with and assist the education department during monthly homeschool classes. Education staff will lead the classes; volunteers may help greet participants and parents, support participants during learning activities, help keep supplies in order, and provide additional eyes, ears, and hands during classroom and outdoor activities.
Volunteers should be available on the 2nd Friday of the month September - April. Volunteer time is 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Possibly longer if agreed upon. Classes are typically split in developmental age levels of 5-6 years old, 7-9 years old and 10 - 12 years old; volunteers would be assigned one age level. There are no opportunities for animal interactions with this volunteer position.

The mission of the Blank Park Zoo is to inspire an appreciation of the natural world through conservation, education, research, and recreation.
Description
The Blank Park Zoo is located in Des Moines, IA and manages 49 acres of land. Of that, 22 acres have been developed into animal exhibits or facilities.
Currently there are 104 different animal species and 1,484 animal specimens cared for at the Blank Park Zoo.
Individuals age 18 and over may volunteer for most special events, visitor services, office support, and grounds without adult supervision. Children ages 13-17 may participate in special events only under the supervision of a parent/guardian. Education volunteers must be 18 or older.
ZooCrew is a special volunteer program for teens 13-17 years old. Applications are accepted until April 27th for the 2012 summer.
