ORGANIZATION: Starkloff Disability Institute

Dream BIG!

SDI is seeking 1-2 passionate individuals to assist our Dream BIG and Career Academy programs. The Social Work Intern will report to the Director of Starkloff Career Academy as well as the Chief Operations Officer. The internship will provide insight to non-profit program management and a diverse experience working with adults and youth in various employment-based programs. Duties of the Social Work Intern include:

  • Work in collaboration with Career Academy staff to monitor, track and coordinate services
  • Assist in planning Dream BIG and Career Academy events and activities
  • Observe and participate in intake interviews, one-on-one training sessions, and courses
  • Research and update program materials
  • Participate in program evaluation
  • Measure and analyze candidates’ outcomes for funding purposes
  • Assist in grant research
  • Participate in recruiting volunteers from the community
  • Attend regular team meetings with program staff
  • Provide administrative support and assistance to program staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications for this Internship include:

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal (including phone work) and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer processing skills including Microsoft Office and Internet. Experience with Google apps and Dropbox preferred.
  • Enrolled in an MSW Program, BSW Program, or any bachelor level program of a related field.
  • Must have reliable transportation and consistent cell phone for communication as needed.
  • College coursework or comparable work experience preferred.
  • Previous internship experience is preferred.

SDI is implementing its mission through community education and employment initiatives. The Starkloff Career Academy and Starkloff Disability Consultants promote economic independence by addressing barriers to employment facing people with disabilities. Our approach involves educating employers, providing intensive preparation for job candidates, and connecting these groups to facilitate hiring. Educational programs include the Disability Studies Initiative, which prepares students at Maryville University to carry our message into the community, a Universal Design Summit showcasing practices in design that extend a welcome to all, and Colleen Starkloff Talks Disability.
