The Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden (MVHMG) preserves and interprets travel, leisure, work and play in diverse antebellum New York. The Museum shares and promotes historical knowledge for the education and enjoyment of the public through engaging interpretation and programs. The Museum presents its 1799 building and grounds as the Mount Vernon Hotel, which served day customers and travelers from 1826 to 1833.
The MVHMG is looking for additional Special Events Volunteers to assist with our public programs throughout the year. Detailed knowledge of the Museum is not required. Scheduling is flexible; openings are posted monthly and you may volunteer based on your availability.
Responsibilities:
- Assist event manager with set-up and clean-up.
- Assist with program activities, such as handing out murder mystery clues and serving refreshments.
- Monitor visitor flow throughout the Museum space.
- Commit to volunteer shifts of 2 to 3 hours in duration.
Qualifications:
- Willingness to learn and interact with the public.
- Volunteers must be 16 years or older.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Dependable and punctual.
- Available evenings and/or weekends

Description
The Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden occupies a unique niche in New York City as one of only several surviving 18th century buildings and only example of a day hotel from the 1820s-30s in Manhattan. Unlike most historic sites, which were private homes, the Mount Vernon Hotel was a public place where workers and visitors exchanged news and information.
