The Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden (MVHMG) preserves and interprets travel, leisure, work and play in diverse antebellum New York. The Museum shares and promotes historical knowledge for the education and enjoyment of the public through engaging interpretation and programs. The Museum presents its 1799 building and grounds as the Mount Vernon Hotel, which served day customers and travelers from 1826.
The Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden occupies a unique niche in New York City as one of only several surviving 18th century buildings and only example of a day hotel from the 1820s-30s in Manhattan. Unlike most historic sites, which were private homes, the Mount Vernon Hotel was a public place where workers and visitors exchanged news and information.
