LiteracyCNY is looking for volunteers who want to teach literacy skills to adults. Interested volunteers follow a course outline to complete online training modules at home, meeting with LiteracyCNY staff at regular intervals to check-in and receive their student assignment.
* Volunteer tutors must have computer skills in order to complete training and receive communications from LiteracyCNY.
* Volunteer tutors agree to either meet with their assigned adult student remotely, or in a public place, such as a library. Most students live in the City of Syracuse, so volunteers should have availability to tutor in the city.
*Volunteer tutors must be able to meet at least once a week with their student, at a consistent time.
*Volunteer tutors agree to report monthly questionnaire regarding their tutoring activity.

Mission Statement
Our Mission is to improve the reading, English language, math and digital literacy skills of adults in Central New York. Our trained volunteers support participants in achieving their personal goals to fully participate in the community as citizens, parents, consumers and workers.
Description
Established in 1961, LiteracyCNY provides instruction to adults in our community. LiteracyCNY offers one-to-one instruction provided by credentialed instructors, and matches adult learners with professionally trained and managed volunteer tutors who assist them to become literate and obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and self-sufficiency. In 2022, LiteracyCNY launched our Digital Literacy program. Trained volunteers assist individuals with operating devices, navigating the internet, and using software. The customer decides what he or she needs help with. The program is provided for free on a drop-in basis at locations across Onondaga, Oneida, Madison, and Herkimer Counties.
