Childcare support needed for migrant families during new parent trainings. Tuesday's 5-7:30pm

In partnership with East Coast Migrant Headstart, Henderson County Migrant Education Program is offering a ten week new parent training program for Latino parents with children ages 0-5. This training program is being offered to migrant farmworker families who live here in Henderson County. It is a great way to give back to the migrant farmworker community.

We are in need of childcare volunteers to assist with watching the chlidren while the parents are in the training.

Volunteers needed Tuesday's August 1- October 2, 2017 from 5pm-7:30pm at East Coast Migrant Head Start at 2 Sugarhill Dr. in Hendersonville, NC. Volunteers are welcome for one, some or all ten weeks.

Mission Statement

The Henderson County Public Schools Migrant Education Program (MEP) is designed to improve educational opportunities for migrant children who change schools frequently and often miss school due to their parents’ transient work in agriculture. The staff works in close partnership with schools, parents, health and social service agencies, and the community at large to identify and serve migrant families. The program offers academic support and addresses family needs.

Description

The Henderson County Migrant Education Program helps migrant students and youth who work or whose parents work in agricultural, fishing and chicken processing labor. The mission is to help migrant families and youth meet high academic challenges by overcoming the obstacles created by frequent moves, educational disruption, cultural and language differences, and health-related problems.
