Newsletter Designer Content Writer

ORGANIZATION: Mental Health Association GC (MHAGC)

Do you love and have experience in mental health education or are a mental health professional and would enjoy writing and designing newsletters and fliers that get attention? And, no need to go somewhere, just doing it virtually? Are you interested in supporting an organization that works to end the stigma of mental illness through the education, outreach and support programs?

Then this volunteer role is for you! Here is what you will be doing:

  • Researching mental health information and writing newsletter content as directed.
  • Designing newsletter and flyers both for online and hard copy.
  • Assisting in maintenance of the MHAGC's FaceBook Page.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of written information.
Do you have:
  1. The ability to write clearly, concisely, and engagingly, with excellent grammar and spelling.
  2. An understanding of how to create content that aligns with MHAGC's mental health goals, audience needs, and brand voice.
  3. The ability to research and verify information to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  4. Proficiency in crafting compelling stories that resonate with readers and promote engagement.
  5. Proficiency in design software such as Canva or others?
  6. Knowledge of design principles, including layout, typography, color theory, and visual hierarchy.
  7. Ability to maintain consistent branding and visual identity across the newsletter.
  8. Experience with email marketing platforms

A big plus if you have:

  1. HTML/CSS: Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS for customizing email templates.
  2. Analytics: Ability to analyze newsletter performance metrics (open rates, click-through rates, etc.) and make data-driven improvements.
  3. Do you have a deep understanding of the target audience educators/parents and the ability to tailor content and design to meet their preferences and needs.
  4. Do you have an understanding of basic SEO principles to optimize content for search engines, if applicable.
  5. Call-to-Action: Expertise in creating effective calls-to-action to drive engagement and conversions.
  6. Have the time to effectively meet deadlines consistently.
  7. Strong communication/teamwork ability to collaborate with us
  8. High level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality in both content and design.

Thank you for considering MHAGC; we are delighted that are you interested in learning more about us and what we do. Volunteers form the core of our organization. We believe that volunteers are front and central to our success as we work to expand our reach and realize our vision. There are a number of steps involved in becoming volunteer:

1) Select a volunteer position!
2) After reviewing your request, we will reach out to you by email to begin the process. Please attach your resume.
3) If you are a good match for a position, you will be invited to come into the MHAGC office for an introductory meeting or to schedule a time to talk on the phone.
4) The volunteer packet will be presented, reviewed and signed. As some of our programs contain information and content that is proprietary, you may be asked to complete a confidentiality and conflict of interest agreement.
5) Volunteering can begin!

Please note: MHAGC volunteer positions focus on leadership, outreach, fundraising, and administration. Other than the support group roles (still in development) we cannot offer volunteer positions that have direct contact with individuals with mental illness or mental health related issues.
