Current and former foster youth are resilient, talented, and amazing young adults. They are looking for the same type of opportunities as you are - a community where they belong; a chance to give back to others; and an opportunity to have some fun when they aren't in school or working.
Stepping Forward LA offers a unique group mentoring program called co-mentoring, wherein community volunteers, as well as current and former foster youth peers come together to help the current and former foster youth of Los Angeles County. We are looking for volunteers who would like to join our community and provide encouragement and support as these current and former foster youth age out of the system and transition into adulthood.
If you'd like to learn more about volunteering with foster youth who are aging out of the system, let us know and we can let you know about upcoming orientations/trainings.
Looking forward to meeting you soon!

Mission Statement
OUR MISSION Empower young adults aging out of foster care to transition successfully to adulthood and reach their fullest potential. WHY WE EXIST Los Angeles County is home to the nation’s largest foster care system. Each year, more than 1,000 young adults "age out" without a permanent family to guide them toward adulthood. With histories of trauma and instability, these young adults often struggle to advance without the support they deserve. They face high rates of homelessness, poverty, incarceration, mental health challenges, and unplanned pregnancy.
Description
OUR COMMUNITY
We take pride in hiring individuals with personal experience in foster care. In addition to bringing unique expertise, they serve as powerful role models to the youth we support. Besides employing former foster youth on staff, we involve them in our internship program, co-mentoring community, and our Board of Directors.
