The Event Planning Committee Member for the Polar Plunge role is a part time volunteer position responsible to carry out our mission. The committee is responsible for making decisions, planning and executing the local Polar Plunge and supporting the committee president in all tasks.
This committee member role is a resume builder and a wonderful opportunity for someone with skills in the areas listed below - or someone looking to gain new experience and skills in the realm of event planning and non profit work. Great opportunity for a creative, ambitious college student or recent graduate looking to gain professional experience in all aspects of the event planning industry. Must be personable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced work environment.
Special Olympics Montana provides year round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharking of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes, and their community.
The Polar Plunge is one of the biggest fundraising events in the local community that help supports local athletes and programs. The Polar Plunge(r) is a Law Enforcement Torch Run(r) signature event. It is a unique opportunity for individuals, clubs, organization and schools to support local Special Olympics Montana athletes by jumping, running or slowly crawling into the frigid and icy waters of Montana. The first Polar Plunge was held in Whitefish, Montana in 1999. Since then the events have grown to 12 different plunges held all over the state with over 11,000 participants raising more than $350,000 annual for Special Olympics Montana.
