Bridging the Divides Research Volunteer
Do you love finding information and looking through data? Then this is the perfect position for you. We are looking for several volunteers to help with a research project looking at policies for Minnesota police departments. You can either work alone or with a team of other volunteers depending on your preference.
Responsibilities:
- Read through police department manuals and other resources
- Collect information relating to our three focus areas of police officer training, use of force, and ticket revenue
- Compare information across different police departments
- Write reports about findings
Training and Support
- Orientation to the organization and programs
- Orientation provided on policing policy
- Directly supported by the Bridging the Divides Team Clerk
- Ongoing collaboration with FNVW staff and other volunteers
Time Commitment
- 4-6 hours a month
- 6 month commitment
- Monthly Bridging the Divides team meetings
- Flexible work location, can research either remotely or at FNVW office
Organizational Summary
Friends for a NonViolent World (FNVW) seeks a world free from violence and the threat of violence. We champion nonviolence as the foundation for effective programs and actions to promote the dignity of every human being. Our programs demonstrate the power of nonviolent action and transformation at personal, community and institutional levels.
FNVW is a Quaker-inspired organization that welcomes volunteers from all faith practices as well as volunteers with no religious orientation. Friends for a NonViolent World (FNVW) is a Quaker-inspired organization of people who affirm the dignity inherent in each human being. FNVW works to promote and create peace and justice in our community by using the principles and practices of nonviolence to transform conflict and to address the root causes of violence.
Description
We provide tools, training and opportunities for people to take leadership in creating a nonviolent society. We affirm the dignity and self-determination of each person, promoting nonviolence as a powerful means to accomplish all just ends. The goals of FNVW are to promote peace in the personal lives of individuals, in communities plagued by violence and in the political system of the United States. Additionally, FNVW strives to educate people on the impact of violence in all areas of our lives.
