The intern/interns will help build, maintain and grow WYLD’s programs and help accelerate our mission to connect urban youth and veterans with wilderness education experiences that foster personal growth. There will be flexibility with these positions/responsibilities because we want them to fit your interests and experience. Please note, we are a small nonprofit and everyone ends up wearing multiple hats. WYLD’s bigger need currently is in fundraising. Learn more about us at wyld.org :)


What we’re looking for:

  • Experience/interest in outdoor education

  • Comfortable working with communities from all walks of life

  • Comfortable with Window & Mac operating systems, proficient with Gmail, Google Docs, and MS Word, Excel, & Powerpoint

  • Strong writing, telephone, and in-person conversational skills

  • Spanish Language skills (preferred because of the population we work with, not required!)


Additional Qualifications -

  • Ability to work at our office near USC and visit Carver Middle School at times, and make occasional weekend / trip prep. commitments (with reasonable notice).

  • Comfortable working with communities from all walks of life, including communities of color and communities from various socioeconomic backgrounds

  • Comfortable with Google Docs, Window & Mac operating systems, proficient with and MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Familiarity with Nationbuilder is a plus!

  • Strong writing skills, telephone and in-person conversational skills


1). Programmatic Intern Responsibilities will include:

  • Logistical, administrative and coordinator support for day hikes / summer expeditions

  • Putting together and helping to develop WYLD curricula for certain programs

  • Correspondence with youth, parents, agency contacts, staff and board members

  • Help maintain and develop program metrics (measuring success of program)

  • Assist with youth interaction on social media. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Nationbuilder, LinkedIn, Google+, Youtube

  • Researching and connecting with potential collaborators

  • Working with the Garden Instructor at the Carver Middle School garden where other responsibilities will include:

  • Working with students in an environmental education setting

  • Demonstrating and overseeing basic garden work and tool safety with students.

2). Fundraising Intern Responsibilities may include:

  • Drafting correspondence with donors

  • Database management

  • Assist with social media and email campaigns. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Salesforce, Nationbuilder, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Youtube

  • Assisting with preparation and execution of crowdfunding campaigns (Indiegogo)

  • Put together and help develop WYLD curricula for certain programs

  • Correspondence with youth, parents, agency contact points, staff and board members

  • Occasional support for trips / excursions (admin, coordination, outreach, etc).

The position will be a minimum of 10 hours a week for at least 8-10 weeks (there is room for flexibility in terms of internship length).

Spring 2015 Fundraising Development Volunteer

This vital volunteer will help build, maintain and grow WYLD’s fundraising program to help accelerate our mission of empowering underserved urban youth and U.S. Military Veterans through transformative wilderness leadership programs and mutually beneficial mentor relationships. YOUR help will impact this mission!

  • Supporting our grant writer with research and collecting stats
  • Database management
  • Assist with social media and email campaigns. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Nationbuilder, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Youtube
  • Assisting with preparation and execution of crowdfunding campaigns (Indiegogo)
  • Researching and connecting with potential sponsors


Desired Qualifications:

  • Comfortable with Window & Mac (preferred) operating systems
  • Proficient with Gmail, Google Docs, Dropbox, and MS Word, Excel, & Powerpoint
