ORGANIZATION: The Arc Minnesota & Arc's Value Village

The Arc is working with local photography artists to host a PhotoVoice class series. The classes will support youth ages 16-21 with intellectual and developmental disabilities in sharing their stories through photographs. Participants will engage in team building, learn photography concepts from talented teaching artists, chose issues that are important them and capture images and stories related to the issues they have chosen. They will also design and host a gallery opening event and reflect on their experience. Highly trained artists and professionals will deliver the program. Volunteers will assist participants in reflecting their views, logistical components of the program and supporting the participants in whatever capacity needed. Specific duties include:

  • Assist in logistical planning and implementation for each day’s class; ensure supplies available
  • Encourage participants to express thoughts, feelings & viewpoint on selected issue - all expression is encouraged
  • Assist with physical needs of participants as requested; i.e. attaching handles to cameras, assisting with photo development, etc.
  • Assist with setup and cleanup of supplies/day’s activities
  • Other duties as requested

Volunteers are needed August 1st-3rd and August 8th-10th (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). Morning sessions are from 11am - 1pm with the afternoon session from 2pm - 4pm. You can volunteer for the morning and/or the afternoon session. Volunteers must commit to all 6 morning and/or afternoon sessions. Location: The Show Gallery, 346 North Sibley Street, St Paul, MN 55101. This is an unpaid position.
