The Aunt Mary's Storybook project brings into the Kendall County Jail, located in Yorkville, a selection of brand new books, along with audio recorders. They assist participating detainees in choosing an age-appropriate book for each of their children. Each of the participants are then given an opportunity to record him or herself reading the books for their children. On behalf of the incarcerated mother or father, our organization then sends the books and CDs to the children.
We are looking for several people to go with us in to the Kendall County Jail on various Thursdays in 2018 help incarcerated parents choose their books and to assist with the recording sessions. The exact dates are TBD.
Volunteers must be open to working with diverse populations and justice-involved populations. Further, the volunteer must be flexible to changing schedules and/or session cancelations due to facility lockdowns, etc. A background check conducted by the Kendall County Sheriff's Office will be required.
Please contact us if you are interested.
