Enhance your resume and learn how to effectively promote events and programs through newsletters, social media, website, and press releases at economic development nonprofit organization BCL of Texas.

This opportunity requires a 5-15 hour per week commitment and is perfect for those who would like to learn effective marketing, PR, and event planning skills while helping a local nonprofit organization.

Projects will include:

  • Help plan and market our annual Austin Home Buyer Fair
  • Create a digital client map on BCL's website
  • Reach out to communities across Texas to help market our rural lending programs
  • Optional: A final video, photo, or website project as determined by the volunteer and Communications Coordinator based on the volunteer's interests

You'll work directly with our Communications Coordinator, who will provide training and guidance. In this role, you will have a chance to learn or enhance skills such as:

  • Photography
  • Social media marketing
  • Graphic design using Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Canva
  • Email marketing using MailChimp
  • Event marketing using EventBrite, Meetup.com, and community calendars
  • Website management
  • Writing and editing skills

This opportunity is highly customizeable depending on the volunteer's specific interests and skills that you would most like to focus on.

Mission Statement

Established by community volunteers from the central Texas region in 1990, BCL of Texas is a not-for-profit community development corporation, which furthers economic development by promoting and assisting in the growth of small businesses in Texas. In addition to providing business with counseling and technical assistance, BCL of Texas originates, underwrites, processes, closes and services business loans to healthy, growing businesses. Its mission is to create long-term jobs through business development and ensure that local communities benefit by an increased sales and property tax base for the long term. We also provide homebuyer education programs, assists first-time homebuyers with the purchase of their first home and helps customers remain responsible and successful homebuyers.

What We Do
BCL is a leader in business expansion capital and community development. Our key centers of excellence include:
· HomeOwnership: down payment assistance, counseling, and classes to help individuals and families become homeowners and care for their homes.
· Entrepreneurship: Business classes and personalized coaching to help entrepreneurs launch and grow their businesses
· Lending: Providing individual, commercial, and home loans to build strong communities across Texas
· Community Development: Working with municipal partners to create affordable housing, manage loan funds, and promote economic development
