Virtual Volunteer

Do you love to write? Do you enjoy managing people and projects? Do you love ministry and want to help us reach those who live on the streets of Seattle?

Then you may be the person Babysteps Ministry is looking for to become our next Content Manager. At this time, our organization is run by a part time Administrative Director and depends almost completely on volunteer services. The Director is unable to keep up with these tasks and must delegate it out in order for Babysteps to grow.

This is a VOLUNTEER position but because the duties are so numerous, it could easily be a full time job. Thus, it is absolutely imperative that the Content Manager delegate as much as possible. So, while you may love to write, you will actually do more people managing than actual writing (unless you have a lot of time on your hands to give away!)

The job will likely be completed in 4 Phases:

  • Phase I - Learn about the organization and our writing style. (1-2 weeks)

  • Phase 2 - Create a Standardized Communications Guideline to be used across all mediums (social media, email, website, printed) (1 month)

  • Phase 3 - Create a Communications Schedule using Google Calendar or Google Spreadsheets. (1-2 weeks)

  • Phase 4a - Recruit, interview, train, then supervise writers & administrators to get the work done. (Ongoing)

  • Phase 4b - Generate monthly reports to track success & improve methods (or recruit someone who can). (Ongoing)

Position Requirements:

  • Excellent leadership, empowerment, encouraging, and delegating skills
  • Humbly willing to accept and provide constructive criticism (critique)
  • Strong organization skills
  • Solid written communication skills with various techniques (lists and step-by-step instructions, motivational/persuasive, informational, writing critique, etc)
  • Understanding of non-profit marketing and fundraising is a plus
  • Follow through, loyalty to commitments, and meeting deadlines is a must
  • Ability to form positive working relationships with peers and those you supervise
  • Microsoft Excel/Word, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Email, Internet search & use - Required
  • Microsoft Publisher, WordPress, Facebook Page Management, any email platform (MailChimp, Constant Contact) - Highly preferred
  • eTapestry - Preferred, but not required

Because this is a leadership position within our organization, we will ask that you sign a Volunteer Contract and agree to our Statement of Faith.

To apply, please respond with a copy of your resume and a brief introduction of yourself and what you believe you can bring to this position.

The Administrative Director will follow-up on inquiries after 5/24/17.

Mission Statement

Motivated by the love of Jesus, Babysteps Ministry seeks to empower the homeless to take small steps toward lasting life change through relational discipleship.

Description

Babysteps uses a relational approach to solve homelessness. Our first step is not usually to meet physical needs. It’s to be friends. To understand. To just be. Homeless men and women are people, just like you. Isolation and feeling ignored are two of the worst things for anyone to experience. They crush the spirit. Demoralize the soul. Harden the heart. And homeless people live with them every day. This is their single greatest need, and no amount of free food will meet it.
