Volunteering at The Grace School/Northwest Arkansas Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities is unique from other volunteer opprotunies in that our volunteers serve as role models for our students. Role models help to build up the students confidence while also serving as an example of how to act with responsibility and thoughtfulness. When volunteers help with activities such as P.E. their actions demonstrate how to be respectful of others, the importance of team work, and most importantly how to have fun regardless of winning or losing! Similarly when volunteers help with arts&crafts they serve as examples of how to try new things, how to accept mistakes, and that everyone is capable of creating something unique! Typical activities include P.E., arts & crafts, board games, reading stories, going on field trips, or various holiday themed activities such as decorating christmas trees, or creating fun masks for Halloween. We strive to always provide fun and engaging activities for both our students and volunteers!

What is expected from volunteers.

As a school/center that serves children with autism we are accepting of people from all walks of life, and we expect the same from our volunteers. Volunteers will be with experienced educators at all times, and will never be expected to intervene in behavioral problems and/or provide treatment for the students.

  • Ability to fulfill a commitment of 1.5 hours a week for at least 3 weeks.
  • Be at least 16 years old.
  • Criminal background check.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to educate and empower children and families by utilizing the most relevant, current, inclusive researched based behavior interventions so that each individual can reach their highest level of independence and effectively participate in their communities. We believe that all students can and will learn given the right set of tools and instruction. Simply put, we believe if a student isn’t learning it is the teaching that must be fixed, not the student!

Description

The Grace School at Children's ABA T.E.A.M. serves:

The Grace School opened its doors in 2008 as a private school alternative. We have been recognized as a school environment where all students can learn and thrive. We strive to help each student excel in a challenging, nurturing learning community.
