The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
This person will have volunteered at other organizations and is looking for an opportunity to try a new volunteering method. This person is willing to put in approximately 30 hours a week at first to learn all about our organization and become a team member equal among other volunteers. This volunteer is not a manager or director of other volunteers, but will become a functioning team member within a cooperative structure. The values of cooperatives includes sharing equally among others, with decision making by cooperation, even above consensus making. This volunteer will act as a conduit to others in the community to learn these principles on behalf of the parent organization, REAP.
This person will serve as volunteer when another volunteer becomes ill for a short time, or must suddenly leave and fills in for the other volunteer. This volunteer will become proficient in all volunteering capabilities and will be prized for having broad understanding of all roles of the Volunteer Team which runs on cooperative principles. This volunteer will also be responsible for developing fun activities when not engaged in a temporary support role.
