Our program volunteers will help support our patients, visitors, and staff members throughout the hospital. This Summer program is for teenagers aged 16-18, who have not yet graduated from high school. Candidates must be available to participate June through August, and must provide a minimum of 50 volunteer hours, scheduling shifts in 3-hour increments on a twice-weekly basis.
Volunteer participants will fulfill the position of Patient and Guest Ambassador, providing a central role in creating a warm and welcoming environment for our patients and guests. Our ambassadors will be stationed at one of the volunteer information desks in the main hospital. The volunteer will greet, give information and directions, escort patients and guests by wheelchair or by walking them to their destinations, and give overall amazing customer service to everyone they encounter in the hospital. The volunteer may also be asked to assist with non-medical related tasks as specified by supervisor.
Volunteer candidates for this program must be outgoing, mature, self-directed, reliable, possess strong communication skills, and be comfortable working directly with a diverse population. Volunteers will also be responsible for scheduling their own shifts and managing their program participation requirements. Participants must attend an orientation prior to the start of the program.
This program will give individuals a wonderful opportunity to work directly with patients and visitors, while also experiencing the hospital environment in a Level 1 Trauma Facility. Participants will learn teamwork, customer service skills, leadership, and have unique exposure to working in an acute care setting alongside a diversity of people in their community.
*There are a limited number of positions available; an application does not guarantee placement in the program.
