The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is excited to announce that we are currently recruiting individuals to join our West Loop Community Council. This council will specifically focus on raising awareness, resources, and funds in the West Loop/downtown area of Chicago.
We are looking for highly motivated individuals who are looking to become more involved with their community and the National MS Society.
The Work of the Council:
- Will focus on supporting and enhancing Society intiatives such as Walk MS, Bike MS
- Raising awareness of the Society, our mission and our fundraising events
- Offer clearly defined work that will help members stay foucused on raising awareness and generating revenue through established fundraising events or Do It Yourself (DIY) Fundraising activities.
Purpose of Committee: To engage community leaders, access resources, generate revenue and increase awareness. To participate and be an ambassador during community events expanding visibility, welcoming the community to join the MS movement, and ensuring trust and confidence in the National MS Society.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, engage and deepen relationships with community leaders resulting in increased participation in Society activities
- Support the implementation of fundraising events; identifying and recruiting and cultivating sponsors, corporate and family teams and participants.
- Identify and build relationships with current and prospective individual giving donors
- Increase awareness of Society services; be knowledgeable and able to speak about Society impact
- Attend council meetings, special events, self-help group meetings, and programs
- Ensure adherence to all Society policies and that activities help fulfill the Society plan
Term Length: Appointment for a one-year term with the option of serving additional terms.
Time Commitment: A minimum of two in-person meetings annually; conference calls as needed.
Resources Available:Society strategic and operational plans, Community Engagement Committee members, staff expertise and support, market and community analysis, and Society materials, tools and resources.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society funds more MS research, offers more services to people with MS, provides more professional education programs and advances more MS advocacy efforts than any other MS organization in the world. Through its home office and fifty-state network of chapters, the National MS Society provides assistance to over a million people annually in its continuing mission to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.
Seeking out and engaging volunteers to the MS cause is at the very core of our business. Each year the Society organizes a series of community events that provide many opportunities for the enthusiastic volunteer. In Greater Illinois we have many different opportunities throughout the year in which you can volunteer such as:
