Bright Light Volunteers is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization, designed to empower program participants and community partners through education and service. Specifically, our programs adhere to global service-learning best practices, which combine community service with both experiential learning in the field and online coursework through our university partner. Our vision is to make the world a brighter place by creating a more peaceful, just, interconnected world where global challenges and opportunities are met by educated, compassionate, global citizens and leaders.

***Volunteer/intern chosen will have full access to all of our communication platforms, design tools, and services, including Cision and PR Wire.

Duties and responsibilities of public relations & communications volunteer include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning public relation strategies for Bright Light Volunteers and our partners
  • Coordinating the with staff of Bright Light Volunteers and media to arrange for press releases, using our Cision PR suite.
  • Analyzing the coverage given by the media to Bright Light Volunteers, and bringing negative comments/reviews to management's attention
  • Coordinating and arranging for photo opportunities which feature our program participants.in
  • Maintaining and creating websites, blogs, and social media profiles
  • Facilitating sponsorship opportunities for Bright Light Volunteers

Qualifications required for position:

  • Degree or significant course credit in public relations, communications, or another related field
  • Should be a good writer with great verbal communication skills
  • Should be knowledgeable about computers and many other software like Photoshop, Illustrator, Powerpoint etc.
  • Should know about today's culture and all the social networking sites as they will be extremely important for marketing Bright Light Volunteers

Extra Skills:

  • Should have knowledge about Bright Light Volunteers, our host communities, and our educationally based global service learning programs.
  • Should have good people skills, both in person and via electronic media sources
