YouthBuild Houston is currently seeking volunteer tutors to help improve students’ academic success in the Language Arts portion of the GED. The YouthBuild program gives low-income youth and young adults ages 16-24 the opportunity to obtain their GED while receiving hands-on-training in the construction field and building affordable housing in low-income communities.
We need your help providing one-on-one Language Arts (GED) tutoring! Flexible schedules, minimum of only two hours a week. No experience necessary. Bring your enthusiasm and empathy. We will provide training and support!
Tutoring will occur during business hours (10-12:30 PM or 1:00-3:00 pm) from Monday to Thursday. Friday is available as a possible option, but only during business hours (10-3pm).
Tutoring will occur at our office location: 201 Broadway Street, Houston, TX, 77012.
Volunteers need to adhere to a background check.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalency diploma.
- Ability to work with young adults of diverse ethnic backgrounds.
- Positive and flexible with a passion for education and youth development.
- Ability to understand the lives and barriers young people face and be non-judgemental.
- Prior tutoring experience preferred, but not required.
- Adhere to the program’s background screening policy.
- GED recipient is a plus!
