Do you enjoy helping people while also helping animals? Join our Client Services Team! The team consists of staff and volunteers focused on helping the public and their pets!

Greeter

Greet the public as they enter the shelter, and help them find what they need in a timely and gracious manner! Your role will allow the shelter to efficiently serve a larger number of citizens and result in better visitor satisfaction and a larger number of pet adoptions, lost pet searches, and many other services.

  • Welcome every visitor to the shelter and find out the reason for their visit
  • Streamline the flow of traffic by directing the public to their specified areas
  • Provide appropriate forms that may need to be completed
  • Answer questions about adoptable animals and the adoption process
  • Assist pet owners with lost animals by checking the lost & found resources
  • Help keep the various forms for the public in stock and organized
  • Help keep items in the lobby area tidy


Docent

Educate the public about the animals in our care, the services we provide, and ways they can help. Your role will greatly impact the shelter’s reach by educating the public about the benefits of the No-Kill philosophy, spay & neuter programs, responsible pet ownership and more, thus helping to save more lives!

  • Welcome guests to the Adoption & Information Center, offer help
  • Answer questions about adoptable animals and the adoption process
  • Direct guests to areas around campus coinciding with their needs
  • Articulate VCAS policies as an open-entry, No-Kill, municipal shelter
  • Facilitate safe interactions between public and animals through kennels
  • Provide scheduled group tours around the shelter, educating about VCAS history, pathway to No-Kill, programs, animal care, etc.

Adoption Counselor

Seeking compassionate, dedicated, & reliable volunteers to help match people with pets using VCAS approved adoption methods. Adoption Counselor Volunteers are on the front line of the Adoption Process, thus must not only be compassionate towards animals, but also towards the numerous potential adopters that visit the shelter each day. Exceptional customer service skills are a must in this highly rewarding position.

  • Welcome visitors to the Adoption & Information Center, provide direction as needed for the completion of the Adoption Process
  • Screen applicants using the Meet-Your-Match (MYM) forms provided as well as engage in conversation to clarify any areas of concern
  • May be asked to "show" an animal if trained to do so, otherwise can be accompanied by a trained animal handling volunteer for show during interview
  • Approve application or redirect adopter to more appropriate animal based on MYM - contact staff for assistance if needed.
  • Complete adoption paperwork

Description

VCAS is an open entry, municipal animal shelter serving 8 cities in Ventura County as well as all unincorporated areas of the County. VCAS currently holds a No-Kill status and has since January 2014. We are looking for passionate, dedicated, self-motivated volunteers to help us continue our mission of keeping Ventura County No-Kill. All volunteer positions are key in our achievement of this worthy mission, and for maintaining it as well.
