The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
This is a Virtual Opportunity, with no fixed address.
The volunteer will work on the following items:
Create a curriculum about the water crisis in Uganda; tying it into the water shortage in California. This will tie into an interactive exhibit at the Santiago Retreat Center where Wells of Life has a Ugandan-style well in place. Thus, the children can carry water and see what a life-saving well looks like and the impact it has. We need a 1-hour curriculum for this.
Create a format for a pen pal type correspondence (list of questions, content) with kids in Uganda regarding describing life before a water well and life after a water well.
We are also working to create a "live and learn" type center for a day field trip to visit a mock Ugandan village which will also have a working water well on it in Santiago Canyon at the Santiago Retreat Center. This is a year out but are looking to create the curriculum for it.
