Many Lights Foundation is recruiting a board member from the greater Seattle and South King County area to serve on our Board of Directors as Treasurer for a minimum two-year term. A retiree with proper experience is an ideal candidate and highly sought for this position. Dedication to the organization's mission is essential.
Board Member Responsibilities:
- Plan strategically for the future of Many Lights
- Speak and advocate for Many Lights and our mission
- Help connect Many Lights to your community
- Participate in fund development activities throughout the year
- Serve as Chief Financial Officer of the organization
- Form and manage the finance committee acting as its chair
- Work with the chief executive officer, staff, and contractors to ensure appropriate financial reports are available to the board on a timely basis at least quarterly and as requested.
- Work with staff, contract accountant, and bookkeeper to ensure proper accounting of the organization's finances and transactions.
- Along with the chief executive officer, prepare the annual budget, program budgets, and interim budgets as needed for grant applications, presenting the budget to the board for approval.
- Review and answer questions about any audits, working with contractors, chief executive and board.
- Maintain adequate and correct accounting of the organization’s business transactions including assets, liabilities, receipts, and disbursements
- Follow through on commitments and deliver on time reports and budgets.
- Understanding of financial accounting for nonprofit organizations
- Experience in budget creation including research and analysis
- Ample time available to perform responsibilities
Board Terms:
- Serve a minimum 2-year term
- Attend monthly board meetings
- Attend an annual retreat or strategic planning meeting
- Actively work on one or more committees
- Participate in special projects as needed including fundraising
- Demonstrate commitment to the organization’s mission and vision
Time Commitment: Board members may expect to serve on average 4-10 hours per month. Meetings are the second Saturday of each month from 10:00 am to 12:00 p.m.
