Job Title: Fur Keeps Dog Medical Advocate

Reporting to: Fur Keeps Manager

Position Type: Volunteer


Our Dog Intake Diversion team is one of the largest roles in the Fur Keeps program. The Dog Medical Advocate will be helping people that are in need of medical assistance for their dog by offering resources and sometimes aid with financial assistance with veterinary services.


Our candidate will be personable, self-motivated, and possess good judgment. Must be able to work with people across generations, including volunteers, members of the public and people of different ages, socioeconomic backgrounds and ethnicities . The position will require ability and willingness to allow for a flexible schedule, including days and/or evenings, as well as weekends. The Dog Medical Advocate will report to the Fur Keeps Manager and attend monthly meetings.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responding to emails and making phone calls on a daily basis

  • Data entry into Rescue Groups

  • Conduct all follow up with clients regarding their dog(s) and any appointments

  • Assist with contacting veterinarians and coordinating vet appointments

  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, members of the community, veterinary hospitals and resources, and other animal organizations

  • Manage Fur Keeps owned email

  • Seeks opportunities to build relationships with veterinary resources and services

  • Manage and update veterinary resources archive

  • Follow designated process for being in communication with Fur Keeps clients and business partners and arranging logistics

  • Other duties as directed by supervisor


Qualifications and Experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent relationship building skills

  • Ability to remain professional in all situations

  • Proficient computer skills: Word, Excel, Gmail, Google Drive, Social Media

  • Experience with Rescue Groups is a plus

  • Great organizational skills

  • Detailed-oriented and have the ability to manage multiple cases and tasks simultaneously

  • Experience with and/or knowledge of canine medicine
