Play soccer? Want to play and know you are giving underserved children a chance to create a new league - the Crown Heights Soccer League?

We're planning a tournament on one or two days, or maybe both of we have enough players.
Sunday, May 28 - 5:30 pmAND/ORSunday, June 4 - 5:30 pm
It is possible that we can do more tournaments or adult games other weekends - we have field Saturdays 1-4 (free 2:30-4p) and Sundays throughout the summer.
WE WANT TO BUY UNIFORMS FOR THE FIRST TIME for our children aged 5-10 so they can create a Crown Heights Soccer league. Can you help us create this?
The cheapest we can find is about $30 each and we have 60 children - so we need to raise about $1800, but even if we get $1000 we'll be happy.
At the tournaments, each player contributes $20, plus you can give $30 to buy a child a uniform.
PRIZE - a trophy and free round of drinks at a Brooklyn sports bar (TBD).Our program started in 2009 just to get kids active. Now, we want to build a league. Kids love it, and the program is powered by volunteers who love soccer. Please hurry and let us know.
You can email soccer@seedsinthemiddle.org -
TELL US WHICH DATES YOU CAN DO, starting with May 28 and/or June 4.
FORMAT-We can either do whole field or 7 v 7 20 minute games (Round Robin) - all suggestions welcome.
If you can referee - let us know - or create the tournament, let us know.
BACKGROUND ON Crown Heights Youth Soccer;
We also see volunteer coaches who love the game and can collaborate with others. Of course, we'd love it if you have experience... Practices are co-ed, and players range from 3 to 11 years old and are at beginner to intermediate level. If youi're self-motivated, love kids and are good with them, can handle the unexpected, and just love this game and want to share it, you're for us. Looking for reliable and flexible players who can commit to at least 2 practices. This is a great community service opportunity for high school and college students. Yes, we do give letters and service hours. Please send us information about you- a resume or some information on your backgrounds so we get to know you a little tosoccer@seedsinthemiddle.org

About Seeds in the Middle

Location:

153 Warren Street, BROOKLYN, NY 11201, US

Mission Statement

Seeds in the Middle partners with students, educators, parents & their communities to access all opportunities, beginning with improving health, enhancing arts education and greening their environment. We empower and educate all to get healthy and scale educational and social disparities. Our pilot schools are in central Brooklyn, a neighborhood with among the city’s highest obesity, diabetes, and heart disease rates. We teach how to grow, market, cook, access and prepare fresh food, how to exercise & engage in the arts, all the elements needed to promote life-changing lifelong health. Our volunteers come from all walks of life. We cross cultures. We transform gray into green, destitution into inspiration.

Description

Seeds in the Middle offers joyful, healthy interventions that nurture the whole child and address the multiple obstacles blocking low-income children and families from getting healthy. We teach how to grow edible gardens, run a student-led Hip2B Healthy Market, bring chefs into schools, started soccer, running and fitness programs at school and in the community and music and arts in the schools. We integrate professional development for teachers so that a healthy lifestyle and environmental stewardship becomes organic and sustainable in the school community. To build community, we created Soccer for Harmony tournaments and the Crown Heights Farmers Market. In two years, we have engaged more than 1,000 families, and students and teachers report changing their habits to include more fruits and vegetables, and fitness. This is a pilot for any school and Seeds in the Middle plans to replicate.
