With locations in St. Paul and Rochester, MCM employs 65 full-time and 65 part-time employees and engages over 1,300 volunteers annually. Position Summary

We seek an enthusiastic individual looking to gain experience in marketing and communications at a non-profit serving over 500,000 visitors a year in sparking children’s learning through play. The intern will be responsible for assisting the external relations department with content creation including creating copy for the Museum’s blog, an e-newsletter and other owned digital channels and assisting with the execution of a content (editorial) calendar. The position will also include conducting market research and analysis, assisting with promotional and sales opportunities, and assisting with marketing plans. This position is part of a collaborative cohort of communication interns.

Major Job Accountabilities

The exact duties and projects will be determined by mutual agreement of the intern and museum staff. All duties will be carried out with the direction and supervision of the External Relations department.

  • Creating content for owned channels

o copy and photos for website, blog, and social channels

o research power of play articles and post to LinkedIn via Buffer

  • Executing content calendar
  • Promotions & partnerships

o material/collateral fulfillment including mailings

o includes list management/clean up

o communications with key partners to ensure fulfillment of partnership

o includes securing additional member benefits

  • Research

o includes coupon redemption tracking

o keyword research for AdWord campaigns

o build, monitor and analyze AdWord campaigns

  • Events

o attend and create content from museum events

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  1. Formal education in related field (marketing, communications, journalism) or related experience.
  2. Ability to take initiative and willingness to work independently.
  3. Strong writing (copywriting) and proofreading skills with an eye for detail.
  4. Experience creating content for social media platforms
  5. Ability to organize time, follow directions and complete tasks in an effective manner.
  6. Ability to work well with people.
  7. Computer skills, including MS Office Suite and Google Drive.

Training Provided

  • Intern orientation
  • Policies and practices of communications in a nonprofit cultural institution
