ORGANIZATION: Big Apple Greeter

  • 28 people are interested

Big Apple Greeter connects visitors to New York City with local volunteers (Greeters) for a free, four-hour excursion ("Greet"). Greeters are not tour guides but New Yorkers who make their guests feel welcome as they visit NYC neighborhoods.

For Greeter/Visitor experiences to be successful, it’s essential that the logistics of the "Greet" go smoothly. The Coordinator of Volunteer and Visitor Services plays a big role in ensuring that this happens.

This position is onsite. There is a minimum of 8 months commitment, with a preference for longer.

Responsibilities:

  • Get to know our Greeters via phone to match them with visitors. Expand our Greeter database with relevant information about them and their knowledge of NYC.
  • Match Greeters with visitors based on the Greeters’ areas of knowledge and the visitors’ interests.
  • Enter information such as date, time, and place about a scheduled Greet into our proprietary database (training will be provided).
  • Send confirmation emails to both visitors and Greeters regarding the logistics of the Greet.
  • Reach out to visitors and Greeters via phone, text, WhatsApp, or email if they do not reply to confirmation emails.
  • Troubleshoot scheduling problems such as cancellations and changes to Greets, including trying to find a replacement Greeter should the scheduled Greeter become unavailable.
  • Other related tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Very comfortable speaking with people over the phone. This will include our Greeters and NYC visitors, some of whom may be from another country.
  • Friendly, articulate, and patient, with a genuine desire to keep our Greeters happy and visitors satisfied with their Greet.
  • Detail-oriented, multi-tasker, and fast learner.
  • Basic computer skills on PC platform (knowledge of MS Word and Excel a plus)
  • Able to learn new software. Training in our unique database software will be provided.
  • Must be willing to work onsite in our office.
  • Can make a minimum of an 8-month commitment, with a preference for those who can commit for one year or longer.

Benefits:

This position is suitable for someone who:

Seeks an onsite volunteer position working alongside a friendly, dedicated, and diverse volunteer corps;
