ORGANIZATION: Campbell County Public Library

Schedule: Evenings and Weekends lasting 2 - 4 hours

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the general direction of the Children’s Librarian, the Children’s Department Assistant Volunteer assists the Children’s Librarian and Children’s Programmer with various projects relating to children’s programming and maintenance of the juvenile collection.

The relationship between the Library and its volunteers is meant to be mutually beneficial. And while the Library hopes to fulfill our volunteers’ desire to be of service to their community, we hope that all volunteers work to support us in our mission: "Campbell County Public Library enhances lifelong learning by providing popular materials, programs, and services to our community."

DUTIES:

  • Assisting in preparation and distribution of program materials
  • Managing set-up, crowd control, take-down and clean-up as needed
  • Performing tasks as needed during programs and events
  • Reading spine labels and keeping library material in the Children’s area in alphabetical or Dewey Decimal order
  • Cleaning library material in the Children’s area
  • Cleaning toys and other items used in programming and in the Children’s area

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with children
  • Friendliness and comfortable working with the public
  • Punctual and dependable
  • Ability to follow direction
  • Successful background check performed by the Library

COMMITMENT:

  • Commitment to a regular schedule of 2-4 hours every week. Four month commitment preferred.

TRAINING & SUPERVISION:

  • Training and supervision provided by library staff

Founded in 1978, the Campbell County Public Library serves the residents and businesses in Campbell County, Kentucky. The County has over 90,000 residents and is located at the northern tip of the state within the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky metropolitan area.

Campbell County Public Library enhances lifelong learning by providing popular materials, programs, and services to our community.

There are three branches located in the cities of Cold Spring, Fort Thomas, and Newport. The library owns land in the southern part of Campbell County that may be used for a fourth branch.

Here are some facts about our library system:

  • We have 238,000 items available for our patrons to check out in our branches.
  • We have 114,127 copies in our e-collection.
  • We have 54,000 library cards in circulation in our community.
  • Over the course of one fiscal year, we circulate more than 1 million books, movies, audiobooks, games and magazines.
  • Our world class programming, including story times, crafts, music, book clubs and our Signature Series, attract 49,000 patrons each year.
  • Our free public computers are used 29,000 times a year.
