Tour guides give tours of the House - introducing visitors to Frederic Church and his family, the Hudson River School, and the marvelous collection of art and objects that fill each room. This is a fun way to share what you love about Olana as well as expand your knowledge about its history. Tour guides are extensively trained and some background reading is required.
As a tour guide, you'll receive 40 hours of training where you'll be shadowing other people's tours and learning all there is to know before you guide tours independently.

Mission Statement
To inspire the public by preserving and interpreting Olana, Frederic Church's artistic masterpiece.
Description
The Olana Partnership is the non-profit support arm of Olana State Historic Site. Olana, located in Hudson, NY, is considered one of the most important artistic residences in the United States. It is the last and perhaps greatest masterpiece created by Hudson River School painter Frederic Edwin Church (1826-1900). Church designed and built his Persian style fantasy on the same hilltop where, as an eighteen-year-old student, he sketched spectacular views of the Catskills and the Hudson River alongside his mentor Thomas Cole.
Becoming a volunteer at Olana is a wonderful way to learn more about this unique and beautiful site, meet new people, and have a fun and rewarding experience.
We offer several opportunities and are always interested in speaking with prospective volunteers who have special skills or interests about other ways to contribute.
In appreciation for their contributions of time and energy, volunteers at Olana enjoy ongoing education and enrichment opportunities, trips to other museums and historic sites, and volunteer appreciation events throughout the year.
