Position Title: HERE Now, Volunteer Prevention Specialist
Purpose: Lifeline’s HERE Now program focuses on preventing suicide by educating 7 th through 12 th grade youth and their families on the risk factors of suicide and reducing the stigma around seeking help for themselves or others. HERE Now provides services to all school districts in North County San Diego utilizing the SOS Signs of Suicide Prevention program curriculum, which uses a video that features stories from teens whose lives have been affected by depression and suicide.
Key Responsibilities
- Present an evidence-based curriculum, Signs of Suicide, and bullying prevention to 7th- 12th grade students with the purpose of reducing risk and enhancing protective factors
- Assist staff in scheduling and facilitating individual student assessments
- Check in with low-risk students at their school about suicide questions or concerns they may have
- Keeping track of student demographics and reporting outcomes of presentations
- Travel to partnering schools for class presentations- mileage reimbursement will be provided
- Assist program staff with internal and external audit preparation
Desired Attributes:
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Desired working knowledge of trauma-informed care and experience working with at-risk youth preferred
- Must have clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Must be comfortable in office and classroom settings
- Ability to speak comfortably about the many facets of suicide
Time Commitment:
- Administrative tasks will take place either at our Oceanside office (3142 Vista Way, Ste. 400, Oceanside 92056) OR school sites throughout North County
- Open weekly availability. Half day volunteer shifts can be either: 7:30am-11:30am or 10:30am-2:30pm
- Minimum of 6 month commitment
