ORGANIZATION: Satellite Affordable Housing Associates

Are you passionate about working with children and supporting their creative, intellectual, and interpersonal development? Volunteer as a program assistant for an after school program for children living in affordable housing. The volunteer will work in conjunction with the Activities Coordinator for Satellite Affordable Housing Associates (SAHA) to help with set-up before the program and clean-up afterwards, to provide homework help for children, facilitate arts and crafts and other creative activities for the children, and to play games and other fun activities with them. This is a fun opportunity to gain volunteer hours, to be a positive influence in the lives of children, and to have a great time!

The volunteer should be flexible and should be committed to coming regularly to the after school program at least one day a week for at least three months. Patience is a must! Prior teaching experience or experience working with children is recommended but is not required.

Description

The purpose of the SAHA's Volunteer Program is to improve the quality of living and promote health and well-being for Satellite Housing's residents. Volunteers will help foster community by facilitating activities for the residents, such as exercise groups, art classes, discussion groups, providing health and wellness information, leading or participating in games, assisting with special events, etc. The residents really appreciate the effort that is put forth by the volunteers, and look forward to the weekly interactions.
