ORGANIZATION: The Salvation Army San Diego Regional Office

We are looking for a teaching assistant to support the Oceanside Corps Community Center by teaching English to Mandarin-speaking seniors of the community who are learning English as a second language. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in developing skills as a teacher, but not quite ready to lead a class of their own.

Requirements:

1. Must be available Thursday afternoons from 1-2:30 pm.
2. Must be available for a minimum of three months.
3. Fluency in Mandarin preferred, but not required.

Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Provide one-on-one support for students learning English as a second language.
2. Collaborate with instructor on upcoming syllabus and assignments for students.
3. Assist with instructing assigned ESL class for a minimum of a three-month period.
4. Counsel and support students in developing and accomplishing individual learning goals, as needed.
5. Document student attendance, progress, and areas of need.
