Asian Women’s Home, the domestic violence and human trafficking program of Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI), is in need of volunteers who speak Spanish to help with with translation and interpretation. Often the clients we assist have limited knowledge of English, making it difficult for them to fully communicate their needs and have their questions answered.

Major Responsibilities: Interpret and translate from one language into English for either written or spoken purposes. Assist staff with interpretation during appointments, hotline, and counseling sessions. Translation of written resources from English into another language. Ability to write, edit, and update resource materials to better serve the community is a plus. Prior experience as an interpreter or translator preferred; not required. Willingness to give time, interest and energy to fulfill goals of the program. Willingness to work in an environment where clients may be in distress. Ability to work both independently and as part of the team. Flexibility and willingness to work on a variety of tasks. Strong interpersonal communication skills.

Time Commitment: A volunteer shift of 4 hours or more on a weekly basis on a mutually convenient schedule, amounting to a minimum of 100 hours of service (post-training) within a one-year period. Most help is needed during normal business hours Monday - Friday from 8am - 6pm. Occasional opportunities during the evening and weekends as as needed.

**Note: Due to the nature of our program, volunteer applicants who are interested in working directly with the survivors must meet the following requirements: Completion of the California State-mandated 40-hour Domestic Violence Advocacy Training. Pass the Live Scan Fingerprinting Background Check. Submit a negative TB test result.

A strong and vibrant organization consists of community members with unique attributes from various ethnicities, races, gender identities, sexual orientations, socioeconomic backgrounds, immigration statuses, and abilities.

AACI Asian Women’s Home encourages you, as an integral part of our community to contribute your individual experience. We will work together to support survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. We accept applications on an on-going basis. For more information, visit or please contact or (408) 975-2730 ext. 222.
