Volunteers are needed for Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center’s annual Winter E-Cycle event.

The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, in partnership with Goodwill Industries, the City of Virginia Beach Public Works and TFC Recycling, will host its semi-annual E-cycling event on Saturday, January 25, 2020; 9 am - Noon. The Virginia Aquarium will collect electronics for recycling and household hazardous waste at the Aquarium's east parking lot.

There is no fee to drop off items, but donations are always appreciated.

Volunteers are needed to assist with collecting old electronics, for recycling and household hazardous waste. Volunteers assist with directing traffic, greeting patrons and taking a brief survey as they drive through, and collecting old electronics. Participants must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for an extended period of time. The event starts at 9 am; however, volunteers must arrive at 8:30 for a briefing. This is a great family and group volunteer opportunity.

  • An itinerary will be sent to all volunteers that sign-up for this opportunity.
  • All interested candidates should sign-up no later than Noon on Tuesday, January 21, 2020.

All volunteers are required to submit Release of Liability and model release forms.

Description

The Aquarium showcases Virginia’s diverse and unique marine environment. The 89 acre campus includes: two exhibit buildings; a one-third-mile long nature trail; Virginia native gardens; an aviary with over 30 species; 3D theater; gallons of aquariums; 360 interactive exhibits; live animal habitats and two touch pools. The animal collection of approximately 12,000 represents over 700 species. Seasonal boat trips, as well as premium behind the scene exhibits add a deeper dimension to guest visits.

In recent years, the Aquarium's research and conservation efforts have grown. The Virginia Aquarium was the first certified Green Attraction in the Commonwealth. It has also taken the lead by hosting e-cycling events and developing a Sensible Seafood program. The organization is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks & Aquariums (AMMPA).
