Emmanuel Life Story Project Orientation & Education: January 17th at 3-4PM

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Emmanuel Hospice

Life Story volunteers interview terminally ill hospice participants and provide a written keepsake of a patient’s life story for family members. Interviews are devised of questions from the BeRemembered.com website and responses are recorded either on paper or directly on BeRemembered.com. The goal of the life story volunteer is to give patients an opportunity to share their story, and provide companionship, purpose, and facilitation of grief through reminiscing before they pass away. The life story volunteer also gives loved ones an opportunity to learn about, reminisce, and grieve their loved one. This is a great way to learn about history from those who lived it. And our participants find that telling their story gives their life meaning and purpose in their final days.

Emmanuel Hospice is a non-profit, faith based hospice based right here in Grand Rapids. We serve patients all over West Michigan in private homes and in facilities. We were created as a collaboration of 4 retirement communities: Saint Ann’s, Porter Hills, Clark, and Sunset. We are also supported by the Carmelite Sisters of St. Ann's Home.

If you are considering becoming a life story volunteer, we invite you to our BeRemembered Life Story training on January 17th from 3-4PM. We will talk about the benefits of reminiscing, how to use the BeRemembered website, share stories of how life stories have touched others lives, and discuss how to become a life story volunteer with Emmanuel Hospice. You can RSVP by contacting Heidi at 616-719-0919. This event will be held in the Emmanuel Hospice office at St Ann's Home at 2161 Leonard Street NW.

If you have had the recent loss of a loved one, we ask that you wait a 12 month bereavement period before volunteering.

Mission Statement

The mission of Emmanuel Hospice, an interfaith partnership, is to provide exemplary spiritual and physical care creating a peaceful experience for the dying and their loved ones.

Description

Why Choose Emmanuel Hospice?

Emmanuel Hospice is an interfaith collaboration of four local organizations with over 200 years of combined experience providing quality health care services in West Michigan.

St. Ann’s, Clark, Porter Hills and Sunset have joined together to deliver the highest level of holistic care to those who have reached the end of life.

The foundation of our partnership is rooted in common missions and values. This has enabled us, as like-minded organizations, to share resources, skills and expertise to better serve those in our community with a life-limiting illness or condition.

We are united in our aspiration to create a peaceful experience in any setting for the dying and their loved ones by providing exemplary spiritual and physical care. Our team is intensely focused on what is most important to each patient and family, and we encourage those we serve to celebrate life.

We begin every relationship by asking "How do you want to LIVE?", then strive to fulfill the individual wishes of our patients and their families.
