Join our team as a volunteeer Finanial Capability Navigator! Work with clients during the tax season to provide financial coaching as their taxes are being prepared. As a Financial Capability Navigator, you will share information with clients about savings and different tools that they can use in order to reach their financial goals and/or save part of their refund. Building Skills Partnership has been a VITA site for 2 years, and this year we will be integrating more financial coaching into the process.

About VITA: VITA is an IRS-sponsored program that has been developed in order to the address the challenges faced by low-income families during tax season. This program trains volunteers to become certified tax preparers in an effort to provide free tax preparation. The collaboration between United Way Bay Area, the IRS, and our organization (Building Skills Partnership) makes it possible to prepare taxes and support many local communities.

Our Organization: Building Skills Partnership (BSP) is a statewide non-profit collaboration between the Californian janitors' union, SEIU-USWW, community leaders, and responsible businesses to build a strong future for building service workers, their families, and communities by advancing skills, opportunities, and self-sufficiency. For more information, go to our website: http://www.buildingskills.org/

About the Volunteeer Position: The Financial Capability Navigator will be trained on how to discuss financial goals, financial capability tools offered by BSP, and other public benefits and services with taxpayers. These conversations will take place while clients are waiting for their taxes to be prepared. We are looking for volunteers who are Spanish-speaking, excited learn more about services like secure credit cards and lending circles, and sensitive to different cultural backgrounds. While we do not require that you are an IRS-trained tax preparer, we prefer that you have experience with a VITA tax preparation site.
