ORGANIZATION: Philadelphia Food Access Collaborative

Position Overview:

Operation Food Rescue, is a collaborative initiative that connects food banks, pantries and emergency meal providers with leftover food from large events in Philadelphia. It diverts food waste while simultaneously providing safe and dignified meals to food insecure populations. Food donors can upload their donation onto the Food Connect app and a dispatcher communicates with donors, volunteer drivers, and recipients to coordinate pick-up and safe delivery of the donation to a food pantry or emergency meal site. The initiative launched during the Democratic National Convention and between July 21 st-July 28 th rescued 11,239 pounds of food. Because of the effort’s success during the DNC, we are continuing the effort. We are seeking committed volunteer dispatchers to monitor the Onfleet program online and coordinate donations.

Volunteer dispatchers are critical for strategizing and communicating the pick-up and drop-off of surplus food. Dispatchers are responsible for calling donors to confirm details about the food and pick-up process. They match each donation to an appropriate recipient and assign drivers to pick-up and deliver the food.

As a dispatcher, you will be an important part of an exciting initiative that connects leftover food with those Philadelphians who need it the most!
