Make MLK Day a day on, instead of a day off, by volunteering with the Green Tukwila Partnership! Take advantage of this day of service by giving back to the community and the environment. We will be spending the morning working along the Duwamish River shoreline to plant native trees and shrubs and to remove invasive weeds in hopes of restoring this critical habitat. All are welcome to come, no experience necessary, so invite your friends, family, and coworkers to give back!

We’ll have a great view of an osprey nest and some occasional otter and bunny sightings while we work next to the river. What greater way to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. than by getting your hands dirty, convening with nature and doing something great for your community and the environment.

About Forterra

Mission Statement

Forterra's mission is to act with immediacy to protect, enhance and steward our region's most precious resources--its communities and its landscapes. Since 1989, we have been working toward a future in which our children and grandchildren can experience nature in and around our urban environments.

Description

Forterra conserves land by working with individuals, companies and local governments. We strive to maximize the ecological value of land, while meeting the needs of landowners. We may accept land as a donation, purchase it, or transfer it to public ownership. We often serve as a broker to identify and negotiate the most effective ownership to protect important lands. We establish conservation easements to preserve special features. For each and every property, we explore available strategies or create new ones to provide permanent protection. Forterra has established a Conservation Agenda for our region, with specific priorities and methods for each type of landscape. Current initiatives include the protection of working forests on the foothills of the Cascades, and the creation of salmon sanctuaries along our region's highest quality rivers and streams.
