Think back . . . do you remember snuggling up next to your family or having your children do the same to you, each time there was a book to read? Good times and according to research, good foundation to build literacy and vocabulary skills in young ones.

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program - Polk, is a national volunteer service program for individuals ages 55+ to become engaged in their communities to help meet community needs. This assignment takes place once/week (time to be worked out with your schedule and the class' schedule) on the campus of Jesse Keen Elementary in Lakeland, FL. The reading program is known as the "Tale Tellers" reading program.

RSVP Tale Tellers must comply with School Board requirements for having FDLE Level II background screens performed. The screenings, unlike other school volunteers, are paid for by RSVP, depending on availability of funds.

Tale Tellers receive an orientation to the program, with suggestion and ideas for helping to keep the reading fun, for you and the students. Some Tale Tellers bring a doll, puppet or stuffed animal that will sit and listen to the story with the kids.
