Do you know what harmful contaminants are in your water? How it gets there? What effect it has on your families and environment? Save the Water(tm) (STW(tm)) is the one looking for answers.

STW(tm) is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to conduct water research to identify and remove harmful contaminants in water; and to raise public awareness about water contamination and its health impacts. STW also offers educational programs to excite young minds about water science.

Our volunteers are diverse professionals from all over the world bringing their knowledge and experience to STW because we care deeply about our communities and water resources. Our new HR Director will become a subject-matter expert in all things, culture, people, training and development; and then keep it organized and wrapped together nicely so that we consistently celebrate our talent-learners, movers and shakers. Our HR Director will become a multi-faceted key resource with responsibilities from filing to hiring. Manages and supports the Human Resource Group in recruiting volunteers for the organization, building volunteer engagement and development programs, and ensuring legal compliance of human resources regulations. Needs to be a team player with excellent communication skills, as well as time-management skills

The Human Resources Director is directly responsible for the overall administration, coordination and evaluation of the human resources function with responsibility for employee relations and talent development of the organization. We are seeking a human resource professional with a proven track record of developing and implementing HR strategy, policies and practices that are aligned with and support the execution capability of the organization-wide strategic plan. We are looking for a talented professional who has the ability and interest to develop and own our talent development initiatives; identify professional training and development opportunities that enhance performance at the individual and organization level; as well as possessing the ability to provide counsel to employees and management on a variety of employee relations

Directors are expected to put in a minimum of 12 hours per week and be responsive to emails within 36 hours.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee department of an average of 20-25 volunteers and interns.

  • Plan and conduct bi-weekly Human Resources Group meetings, including sending agenda, taking meeting minutes, and follow up

  • Interview Volunteer Candidates and provide training for new human resources volunteers.

  • Provide ongoing coaching and assistance for active human resources volunteers

  • Plan and conduct bi-weekly human resources meeting, including sending agenda, taking meeting minutes, and follow up

  • Maintains and enhances the organization's human resources by planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs, and practices.

  • Maintains the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions.

  • Maintains organization staff by establishing a recruiting, testing, and interviewing program; counseling managers on candidate selection; conducting and analyzing exit interviews; recommending changes.

  • Prepares employees for assignments by establishing and conducting orientation and training programs.

  • Ensures planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results by training managers to coach and discipline employees; scheduling management conferences with employees; hearing and resolving employee grievances; counseling employees and supervisors.

  • Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements; conducting investigations; maintaining records; representing the organization at hearings.

  • Maintains management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures.

  • Maintains historical human resource records by designing a filing and retrieval system; keeping past and current records.

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  • Completes human resource operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.

  • Maintains human resource staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.

  • Maintains human resource staff job results by counseling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

  • Communicate monthly (at minimum) to Vice President(s).

  • Communicate to the President and other Directors, as needed.

  • Provide Monthly Report to Vice President(s).

  • Provide Quarterly Objectives for your Group a minimum of two (2) weeks prior to the start of each quarter.

  • Attend Quarterly Operations Meetings.

  • Communicate with HR on open positions, hiring and resignation processes, and other

procedures as requested

  • Manage Project Leaders and Volunteers

  • Manage and keep operational documents current, including the SOP manual.

  • Assist in developing procedures & documents for the organization.

  • Complete the PWR audit for the Associate Directors each month.

Experience/Requirements:
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously.

  • Requires self-direction, tact, diplomacy and a clear, courteous and professional manner when dealing with the public.

  • Must demonstrate effective oral communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with staff inside and outside of the department.

  • Hiring, Human Resources Management, Benefits Administration, Performance Management, Communication Processes,Supports Diversity, Classifying Employees, Employment Law, Laws Against Sexual Harassment, Organization

  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills

  • Associate's degree (or currently enrolled in degree program) or minimum of one to two years of experience in the Human Resources sector
